We are a group of the Ramblers’ based in the part of Suffolk
Coastal District lying to the north and east of the River
Deben.
Click here for a list of the parishes in our territory.
Our membership stands at about 160. This makes us rather small
as groups go. We are also a fairly new group having been formed as
recently as 1995.
Our core activities are arranging walks and doing some practical
work to improve the rights of way network within our territory. Our
volunteers make representations about issues concerning problems
and proposed changes to the rights of way network, Open Access Land
and the beauty of the countryside generally.
We organize a walk regularly every other Sunday morning
throughout the year and also lay on some shorter walks in the
summer evenings and winter afternoons. The walks vary in length
from around 3 to 12 miles and in terms of ease are generally
classified as being moderate.
Whilst our walks are enjoyed primarily by our members, we
welcome non-members to come along and see if they would like to
join us.
We are part of a registered charity that is incorporated with
limited liability. The objects of the charity generally are to
promote, encourage or assist in:
(a) The provision and protection of footpaths and other ways
over which the public have a right of way or access on foot,
including the prevention of obstruction of public rights of way
(b) The protection and enhancement for the benefit of the public
of the beauty of the countryside and other areas including by
encouraging the provision, preservation and extension of public
access to land on foot
(c) The provision of facilities for the organising of open-air
recreational activities and in particular rambling and
mountaineering with the object of improving the conditions of life
for the persons for whom the facilities are intended, namely the
public at large, and in the interests of social welfare (including
health)
(d) Advancing the education of the public in subjects relating
to access to, and the preservation and conservation of, the
countryside and of the health benefits of outdoor recreational
pursuits.
