Welcome to Ashbocking Parish Council
website |
Ashbocking is a small
village 7 miles north of Ipswich on the Ipswich to Debenham
Road. In the 2001 census there were 115 households and the
population was 318. There have been some building developments
since that time so both the number of households and the
population have increased slightly.
Ashbocking is a village of
three parts: the main section is on the Ipswich-Debenham Road;
there is also a small but important part (historically speaking)
around Ashbocking All Saints Church about a mile away and finally
there are some houses on Gosbeck Road. The village may be small but
it has a long history with evidence of Iron , Roman and early
Mediaeval settlements around the Church site.
Certainly the village
centre was originally around the Church in the fifteenth century.
Although village services such as shops have disappeared over the
years there are many businesses in the village and the farming
sector is still very important which all makes for a vibrant
community.
If you have any old photos of the village which can be
added to the website, please e-mail them to the Clerk at the above
e-mail address.
Garden Party 2008
