A Short Story

Bram Stoker wrote about the story of Dracula, a man who had died only to come back as a vampire. Here is one he never wrote. See how many areas of Babergh you can find in this very short story. Officially there are 15 but there may be more

This story starts with a series of unexplained incidents that stretched the emergency services to their absolute limit and in a moment of inspiration they sought advice from a mild energetic man living in a house that was surrounded by high amp electric current fencing, to protect the work that he was doing with electricity and research for a university.

He had a granddaughter named Lindsey but everyone she knew called her ‘Ley’ and because of her association with a suspect that they had been watching, called Edward Stone, the police were concerned for her safety. Edward was suddenly aware that someone was following him and decided to make his move on Ley. A Friend of his called ‘Ray’ donned stones clothes and led the police away from Ley and at this point Edward invited Ley to his boat that he lived on. When she boarded it, she noticed that everything was perfect, all was matching in the same wood, and all the decoration was matching, except for one thing, a large pine wood box. It seemed so out of place and made her wonder why it was ever there. Edward saw her look at it and explained that it was a new toning machine to tone up his muscles. He shot Ley a look and then thought he saw movement in the trees beside them. Then he saw a river cop docking beside him and two police officers boarding his boat explaining that although he was not arrested, they would like to talk to him about a series of incidents and as he was mentioned in some information they received the must be seen to act on it.

After they left a Crime Scene Officer came on board called Nardia and almost immediately spoke to Ley about the cooking of garlic, Ley looked at her and saw that behind her was her Grandfather, she looked a him and then at Nardia and thought either she could smell garlic or Nardia was imagining she could. They looked in the box and saw 3 things, some soil, a wooden stake and a crucifix. The Professor left the scene and asked to be taken back to the station, where after listening to Edward, he said to him that for everything he said, he would burst all of the lies wide open with one foul swoop, and that the law shall prevail. He turned to the Senior Officer and said;

“Let’s box Ted up in his box and then burn it, believe me! He is more dangerous than you think and putting him in a cell will only leave him to cause more chaos, he will not come back if we put him in his box”.
For D.C.I Brent Eleigh this was a most difficult decision and he decided to follow the rules of Law and take this individual to court.

As time went on, the professors words were proved right, and the day came when, after a long testimony by the Professor it was decided to send Mr Stone back to the country he had left and arranged an extradition order to Romania. The police took him back to his boat to collect his personal effects and waited as he sat down to pack his bag, they suddenly heard screaming and ran on to the boat to find the Professor watching this man burn, after a few seconds they looked again and saw nothing to ever show that the man was there. They both looked at the Professor who said;

“He was a vampire; he was dead and had to be destroyed, to save the world”. With that statement, he left and went back to his granddaughter Lindsey.
