Review of Barking Fair 2006
The 2006 Barking
Fair, which took place on Saturday 5th August, looks to have
attracted a record number of visitors. The weather was perfect and
the Tye took on a truly carnival atmosphere as hundreds of visitors
turned up (not just locals) to enjoy a perfect summer's
afternoon. Sally Howlett, a member of the organising
committee said "We haven't yet had a chance to count up all the
money we took yet, but judging from the number of cars in the car
park, I think we have had more visitors than ever before; it was
very busy and we are expecting it to be a record-breaking year. And
the event had a very good atmosphere, everyone enjoying
themselves".
Among the attractions were a circus workshop, a giant inflatable
slide, Barking Kite Fliers, Barham Rare Breeds, Samba Dancers,
Archery, Swing Dancers and a Gazelle helicopter from
Wattisham.

The Birds of Prey proved very popular as did the circus
workshop.

Local celebreties/viillains were arrested a put into the stocks.
Barking Parish Council Chairman Michael Smth took his punishment
with good humour as did Des Stott.

The Ipswich Hospital Band played
while everyone enjoyed the entertainment in the Grand Ring,
quenched their thirst in the beer tent or cooled off with an ice
cream.

For the
first time, an evening musical event took place on the Tye. A live
band - Roach, and the Black Cat disco entertained the crowd,
who danced the night away under a star-lit sky. A truly magical way
to round off a perfect day for the village of
Barking.

Thanks to everyone who worked so
hard to make this years' Fair a truly memorable event, and of
course to everyone who came along to enjoy the day with us.
Village groups, St Mary's Church and local charities will
benefit from the money raised.
