 Our Global Kinship Journal

29/06/07 - We have had another email from Valerie with more details. She is going to work as a “bridge” as she put it! She has given my details to 3 village schools and she said they all seemed interested!! We will have to wait and see what we get from them and from Efraim – this is suddenly getting VERY exciting and I am wondering who we will hear from next!!

25/06/07 - We have sent the email to Efraim. We are very much looking forward to receiving his ideas on what he believes will come out of this link. Meanwhile yet more exciting news!! While all this was being sorted out, Marina (the VSO in Indonesia) has contacted us again with ANOTHER possibility!! Her name is Valerie and she is another volunteer on the Island. She is working with schools, also in Flores, about Organic farming. She would like to be in contact with us so I have given her my postal details as their internet connections are not very good where she is.

Marina also has contacted us to say that her contract is finishing at the end of June and so will no longer be able to help us. She has told us that her replacement will help us if needed – phew!!!!!!!!!!!

06/06/07 - The meeting went well. We have put together a rough idea of what we want to say and now we are just going to put it all together. We looked at what we belived Global Kinship was all about and what we wanted form this link.Hopefully we will send this to him soon and await another reply.

05/06/07 -
I am now back and Ric has had a nice reply from Efraim. We are all meeting tomorrow to decide what we want to say back to him. It is all exciting – fingers crossed that we get where we want to be.

08/05/07 -
We have had a reply from one of Marina’s contacts! The man’s name is Efraim and he is from the island of Flores. He works in the government dealing with co-ordinating the management of a watershed catchment area – I am sure we will find out more about this as we go. Flores is a small island and we feel that as it is a rural area he is in that we fit in well with our own relatively small villages. I have sent him a small reply for now as I am on holiday now for 2 weeks and we want to have a meeting to decide a reply to him. While I am away Ric is going to send him an email with a background to the Green light Trust. Then, when I get back, we will have our meeting as a group and decide where we go from here!!

- Today received an email from Marina. She likes the letter but wants us to make a few changes which she has mainly nicely done for us!! She has 4 groups she wants to pass it to. We changed the letter as she wanted and re-sent it to her to forward on. We now await a reply from her or the groups!!

- Today found out that we have been given a grant from Awards For All to help us pay The Green light Trust for the assistance in setting up our global link, to buy material, and other bits that may be needed.

today finally sent the first letter to Indonesia to see if a VSO called Marina who lives in Indonesia can help us find a partner for Global Kinship. The first letter was hard, - trying to find the right words especially if she has to translate it! You don’t realise how many words can have completely different meanings to someone non- English!! We now anxiously await her reply!! We are all excited as our Global Kinship adventure begins!!
