On 23rd June
2005 we celebrated the start of the Barnby and North Cove
Woodland Project by planting a horse chestnut tree in the
grounds of Barnby and North Cove Primary School.
Year 4 pupil Oliver Harris planted a conker in a pot several years
ago. This seed had grown into a tree which was established enough
to be planted in the ground. Oliver kindly let us plant his tree to
mark the beginning of our project.
Pupils at the school were asked to write their wishes for the
future onto leaf shapes. These ranged from wishes for the
environment ('I wish Global Warming would
end') to personal wishes ('I wish I was a fairy')
These wishes were displayed next to the tree.

The celebration also included a
'blessing' for the tree. This was a translated version of the
blessing for the first tree planted by the Green Light
Trust.
