Welcome to Barnham
website |
Barnham is a conservation village
which lies on the Suffolk-Norfolk border, two miles from the
historic market town of Thetford. It is a quiet, friendly place
with a real community spirit, due to the variety of activities
organised by local people. A traditional Fete takes place every
September, on the field beside the Village Hall. This year's Fete
is being held on Sunday September 9th, 1pm - 4pm, and the theme
will be 'Dragons'. The Fete will be officially opened by Hollywood
actor Ed Speleers, who recently starred in Eragon. Hence
the Dragon theme! There is also a thriving Amateur Dramatics group,
which puts on plays periodically, and every other year the village
produces a pantomine.

On the outskirts of the village is RAF Barnham, built in about 1953
on Thetford Heath to store atomic weapons, but by the 1960’s it was
obsolete and in 1965 the storage buildings were sold and are now
used as a light industrial estate. The remainder of RAF Barnham is
still a serving station, under the control of nearby RAF Honington.
A thriving ATC group meets there on Tuesday and Thursday
nights. | |
