REPORT - Extract from page 17 of the Feb-Mar 2010 Bentley Bugle:

Unfortunately our December Meeting was cancelled due to the weather conditions, heavy snow and ice, no doubt you will all remember it !! Hopefully we will be able to rearrange that programme in 2011.  This may seem a long time ahead but Gill Swain has already done the programme for this year which is shown in detail below. As I write this we have more snow on the ground and the subsequent frost and ice to follow no doubt, so it is not easy to think of matters Horticultural.

PROGRAMME FOR 2010

19 February- a talk by one of our Members Colin Hawes.

19 March- Plant propagation- Mark Howard of John Woods Nursery at Woodbridge.

16 April- Growing and Sowing Vegetables with Mr R Castle- One of our Show Judges.

21 May- Fuchsias with Mr Ken Emery.

22 May- Coffee morning and plant sale.

14 August-Annual Show.

17 September- Herbs and their uses- Dan Wheals.

15 October- Photography in the garden- Peter Green.

19 November- Annual General Meeting.

17 December- "Of cabbages and kings"- John Goodhand.

All Meetings commence at 7.30pm and are held in the Village Hall.

Come and join us and be ready for Spring- the daffodils will soon be in bloom !!

ACCESS to HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY REPORTS for 2009


ANNUAL SHOW - (Report received 0n the 18 AUGUST 2009)

The Annual Show took place in the Village Hall on Saturday 15th August and attracted an excellent entry of over 250 exhibits from Society Members. Classes were judged in the morning by Mr. & Mrs. Castle, our two independent SHAPA judges, who commented on their excellent quality in spite of the difficult season. Cups were presented by Mr. Peter Jensen President of the Society, as follows.

          `South View Cup` (Flower section) Ms. Pam Lovell.

          `Neale Cup` (Flower Section) Mrs. Beryl Eastall.
          `Carruthers Cup` (Flower Section) Mrs. Sandra Ford.
          `Mills Cup` (Flower Section) Mr.Bill Freeman.
          `Norman Tollemache Cup` (Annual Competition Fuschia) Mrs. Lillian Milton.
          `Farmers Cup` (Vegetables & Fruit) Mr.Bill Freeman.
          `Jensen Cup (Vegetables & Fruit) Mr. John Blackmore.
          `Bentley Cup` (Oversize Vegetable) Mr. Ernie Eastall.
          `Harry Arnold Cup` (Best exhibit in Show- Tomatoes) Mrs.Lillian Calvert.
          `Booth Cup` (Floral Art) Ms.Pam Lovell.
          `James Cup` (Domestic) Mrs.Jan Ashcroft.
          `Saward Cup` (Domestic) Mrs.Veronica Howe.
          `The President’s Shield (Individual with most points) Mrs.Veronica Howe.

 

The Chairman, Mr. John Blackmore, congratulated all the exhibitors and everyone who visited and supported the Show on the day, which was a great success.

He also reminded Members that after the Summer break, the next meeting will be on Friday 18th September at 7.30pm. when the Speaker will be Mr. Bill Baston talking on `Birds of East Anglia`. Everyone is welcome to come along
