UPDATE written on the 06 January 2011:

At the 6 January 2011 Playing Field Committee meeting it was reported that the ditch work and piping were provided with the 'levels' all wrong.   This may mean that the work would achieve the desired result and Suffolk County Council may need to cary out further work.

UPDATE written on the 03 December 2010:

At the 2 December 2010 Parish Council meeting it was reported that all the ditch work and piping had now been completed, however, there appeared to be some concern about the 'levels' which may mean that the work would achieve the desired result.  Suffolk County Council are to check the levels to ensure the correct flow of surface water.

Hopefully this will finally solve the problem of the lane flooding under extreem wet weather conditions if the soakaway can cope.

(Thought regarding the current 'soakaway': After what was required at the Village Hall is the current soakaway not deep enough?   Is it reaching the sand and gravel layer that is situated beneath the Village.  Deepening the soakaway may be the less costly solution since the layer of sand and gravel varies in depth throughout the village.)

UPDATE written on the 06 March 2010:

At the 4 March 2010 Parish Council meeting (Item 17) the council decided to arrange to get the hedge 'flailed' to allow ditch clearance work to be carried out.  The final solution to the flooding problem was still being worked on by the County Council who in these difficult times may require assistance with the funding from the Parish Council.

More news about the progress will be added when available.

(Update written on the 03 December 2009)

At the 03 December 2009 Parish Council meeting those present were informed by the council that a property in Case Lane was flooded out following the recent prolonged heavy rain.  Obviously severe flooding has once again occurred and further remedial work is now urgently required.

Apparently the local authority have further work in hand to effect a permanent solution which will hopefully prevent this from ever happening again.

End of the 03 December 2009 update.

2007

Report dated Monday 28 May 2007

After 24 hours of heavy rain severe flooding occured once again in Case Lane.  The lane floods due to run-off water from the local area and the C426 gathering in the lane because it is lower than the adjacent road and surrounding fields.

Fortunately no ingress of water to properties occurred.

Some months ago work was carried out to impove the drainage by digging out the existing ditch however, it is obvious that this is insufficient to cope with exceptional 'downpours' which are happening more frequently.  To drain the lane the deep ditch may need to be extended further along the lane by digging out the silted up section.  If the ditch was extended sufficiently it could join up with an existing surface water 'run-off' pond which unfortunately has, over the years, also silted up. The ultimate solution will be up to the local authority to decide.

Below are pictures taken by concerned residents affected by the recent flooding.
