Horticultural Society - REPORTS
2009 |
(Annual Parish
Meeting report - 23 April 2009)
The Society is now in its 32nd year, and at
the moment we have 73 members.
We meet on the 3rd Friday of each month with a break during the
three Summer months of June, July, and August. Our Annual Coffee
Morning & Plant Sale will take place here next month on
Saturday 23rd May between 10 and 11.30 am. Proceeds this year will
be going into our club funds, as the cost of our monthly Speakers
now averages about £60 each meeting.
Our Members may exhibit at our Annual Show
which this year will be held on Saturday 15th August, and members
of the public can view exhibits between 2 and 4pm. The outside
border shrubs and trees at the Village Hall are growing well and
coming into full maturity, thanks to the efforts of Society
volunteers who regularly weed, feed, and generally tend these
areas.

(Report received 0n the 20 April
2009)
Since the last report, the Society
has had two most interesting speakers.
Mrs. Chittock on ‘Hedgehogs’ - the gardeners’ friend – when we
learnt a number of things we didn’t know about this secretive
night-time visitor to our gardens, and Dr. Rowe an expert on the
breeding and cultivation of ‘Delphiniums’.
Our final meeting before our Summer recess will be on Friday 22nd
May at 7.30pm when we will have a talk on Alpines and Rockery
Plants.
The following morning on Saturday 23rd May, we will be holding our
Annual Coffee Morning and Plant Sale in the Village Hall – in aid
of club funds. Admission is 50p. which includes coffee – everyone
is welcome!

(Report received 21 February 2009)
The Schedule for our Annual show in
August will be issued to members this month. In February we had a
very informative and interesting talk with slides, by 'Green Thumb'
- a franchised company dealing with all aspects of lawn care.
On the 20th March we will welcome Mrs. Carol Chittock whose subject
is 'the gardeners friend' - the Hedgehog. Meetings start at 7.30pm
in the village hall with new members being made most welcome.
A reminder that our annual subs (£5.00) are now overdue and should
therefore reach our Treasurer as soon as possible.
