Armistice
Day:
....... On the 11th Hour of the
11th Day of the 11th Month the guns fell
silent.
.......
They shall not grow old as
we that are left grow
old;
.......
age shall not weary them, nor
the years
condemn.
.......
At the going down of the sun and
in the
morning,
.......
We will remember them.

ROLL of
HONOUR
- Details about the Service Personnel listed on
the Memorial
.
(War
Memorial ROLL of HONOUR for other villages close to
Bentley.)
The Parish Council completed the refurbishment of the war
memorial early in 2001 and annually, since then, services of
remembrance have been held around the memorial. These
services are always well supported by the local community. On
the Friday before each Remembrance Sunday, the school, together
with the local community hold a 'Service of
Remembrance'.
A 'Chaplet' shaped wreath was supplied by a local
resident for the Parish Council to lay during the
ceremony. The Parish Council accepted this heartfelt gift and
therefore did not purchase a wreath until the resident was no
longer in a position to do so. The words on the card were,
and still remain, as she had requested: 'From the
residents of Bentley - In
Remembrance'..

Report from
Bentley Primary School.
(Page 14 of the Bentley
Bugle.)
On Friday 9th November, we held our annual Remembrance Service at
the War Memorial in Bentley led by the Revd. Don Mehen. Pupils read
aloud the names of the fallen from two World Wars and also read the
Remembrance prayers and Kohima Epitaph. We were joined by the
Standard Bearer and several members of the East Bergholt branch of
the Royal British Legion.

The Lost
Generation
. ...........
We are the dead.
...........
Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw
sunset glow,
...........
loved and were loved, and now we
lie in Flanders
fields. ...........
When you go home, tell them of us and
say ...........
For your tomorrow, we gave our
today.
