Tuesday Club - REPORTS 2009
(Report received on the 09 NOVEMBER 2009)

October was quite a busy month for us & included a demonstration, and the making of three differently designed birthday cards, by members – ably assisted by our instructor, Linda Bloomfield. Helen Taylor from 'Age Concern' came and gave us a very informative talk on the various aspects of their work, and how members could contact the office for advice.

The month concluded with a most enjoyable lunch at 'Peak Lodge'.

At our first meeting in November, we were entertained by 'The Musettes' (a charitable quintet) who sang songs together with a smattering of comedy – a most enjoyable afternoon. Chair aerobics followed by cards & scrabble rounded off the month.

The programme for December is quite hectic with a demonstration of how to make Christmas decorations by Peggy Ward, our Annual Christmas Lunch at the 'Bramford Cock' concluding the year with our Christmas Party & entertainment by Mike Read.

We start 2010 with our Annual General Meeting, so all members are invited to come with any suggestions / ideas etc. and the Year’s programme will be available.

We wish all members and friends a Very Happy Christmas and New Year.

Margaret Blackmore (Secretary)

(Report received on the 18 SEPTEMBER 2009)

Our last summer outing on the 8th September proved to be a great success when we chartered the “Orwell Lady” for a river cruise to Pin Mill, returning to the Ipswich Wet Dock. The weather was perfect and most of the 48 members and friends sat on the open top deck – enjoying the river scenery and the commentary on the places of interest on route. On our return to the Village Hall, afternoon tea was provided and we also celebrated two birthdays – Elsie Foster`s 95th, and Peter Jensen`s 94th. Grateful thanks are extended to everyone who provided the delicious cakes and sandwiches etc, and also the prizes for the draw.

For the months of October and November our programme consists of a demonstration on how to make birthday cards, a talk by `Age Concern`, entertainment by the `Musettes`, and another session of chair aerobics. New members are always welcome – please note that from November, our meetings commence at 2pm for the winter months.

(Annual Parish Meeting report - 23 April 2009)

The Tuesday Club continues to flourish and is an integral part of the Village Community.

We meet fortnightly throughout the year and try to maintain a varied programme of Speakers, Demonstrations, and Entertainment - together with our usual Cards & Scrabble afternoons.

One of the highlights of last year was a fashion show by 'Lady Prentice' - held in conjunction with Bentley W.I. when we provided some of the models.

We also arranged three outings during the Summer months - a Deben cruise from Waldringfield, Dunwich & Southwold, and a trip to Clacton, as well as two theatre trips to Woodbridge.

We also organised the Annual Flu Jabs in liaison with our local surgery, and which was open to other village residents.

So far this year, we have a variety of Speakers - including the 'Fire Rescue Service', 'Cats Protection' , The 'Practice Manager' from our local surgery, and 'Punch & Judy', as well as introducing 'Chair Aerobics' on a regular basis.

Two outings are so far arranged for this year, to Dunwich & Snape in May, and a trip up the River Orwell to Pin Mill in September.

We continue to run a draw and sales table at every meeting as costs for Speakers and Entertainers now average £50 each time, and we have had to cut our Summer outings to two, as coach fares are also escalating.

Finally, we are very pleased to see our Community Police Officer, Denise, who now calls in to see us on a regular basis to see if any of our members have any issues they wish to discuss.

At our meeting at the end of March, Catherine Eldred – the Practice Manager from our local surgery, informed members of the facilities available, which included the revised changes to the appointments system and the Saturday opening at Capel-St-Mary. Members asked a variety of questions at the conclusion of her talk.

In April, Peter Battye came and spoke to us on the subject of ‘Punch & Judy’. This proved to be very interesting and amusing and was enjoyed by everyone.

At our meeting on the 2nd June which starts at 2.30pm. Alison Wareham will be giving a talk on `Chiropody`.

Tuesday 19th May will be our first outing of the year, when we are off to Dunwich for a fish & chip lunch, and then on to Snape Maltings for the afternoon. The inclusive cost will be £15 each and the coach will leave the Village Hall at 11.30am. There are a few seats still available - contact Margaret Blackmore (310655).

(Report received on the 21 February 2009)

Since the last report we have held our AGM when the Committee were re-elected 'en bloc'. We also had a very interesting and informative talk by the 'Fire & Rescue' dog unit handler – demonstrating the various equipment used by his dog 'Darcy', who has been trained to enter buildings and confined spaces etc. and locate trapped people.

February, we had a session of 'chair aerobics' taken by Tracey Mower, which proved very beneficial and hopefully more sessions will be arranged on a regular basis. For the last meeting in the month we had a talk by the 'Cats Protection' group involving all aspects of their work – trapping stray animals, fostering & adoption, and the veterinary procedures.

A donation of food and 'play items' were donated by the club. (Anyone interested in adopting either a cat or kitten, should contact their Secretary on Ipswich 680210). Nearly 40 members and friends enjoyed our annual outing to the Riverside Theatre at Woodbridge to see the 'Company of Four' production of 'Mother Goose'.

On Tuesday 24th March, at 2pm. in the Village Hall, we have invited Catherine Eldred – Practice Manager from our surgery to come and talk to us 'How our Surgery is Organised'. This should prove most interesting and informative, and we have made this an `open` meeting so anyone interested in attending will be most welcome.
