Brundish is a small village of some 70 houses in what is known
locally as ‘High Suffolk,’ in the north eastern corner of the Mid
Suffolk District Council area. Situated roughly mid way
between Framlingham and Stradbroke, it has a church - St Lawrence’s
- and a public house – 'The Crown'. It also has a thriving
Village Hall which is home to an IT Training Centre.
The village is somewhat spread out
and scattered, mainly falling into two parts. The main part is
scattered alongside the B1118 which runs East to West through
the centre of the village, and then Brundish Street which runs
Northwards towards Laxfield from the crossroads at the western
end of the village. The River Alde rises in the parish and
meanders past the church.
It was largely an arable farming community in the past and did
in fact have three windmills of its own, all now sadly gone. But
it has developed over the years into a residential
community that still retains a large farming area around it,
most of the smaller farms of the past having been incorporated into
larger farms.
Apart from that you may think it is
a sleepy village but surprisingly it has many things to offer;
there are lots of thriving businesses and home industries, together
with a good choice of self catering and B&B accommodation
within and around the village.
An exciting new project within the
community which has been overseen by the Parish Council, was the
creation of a Village Green on land adjacent to the centre of the
village which is has now been completed and is in
use. This project has added to the amenities
available to the Parish and its residents. A village sign has been
designed and installed on the green to provide a sense of identity
and focus.
The Parish Council meets every two months in Brundish Village
Hall; the meeting dates are listed
separately.
