About Abnormal Loads
Abnormal loads are vehicles or trailers which exceed one or
more of the following measures:
- 18.75 metres long
- 3.0 metres wide
- 44 tonnes total weight
- an axle load of 11.5 tonnes
Hauliers need to notify the Police and the County Council
if they plan to move abnormal loads in the County.
Suffolk County Council must be notified if the vehicle is over the
height or weight limits, and the police need to be notified if the
vehicle is long or wide. Notification must be made in
writing.
The county council and the police work together to route abnormal
loads through the county ensuring that highway structures and the
environment are protected, and that escorts attend as required.
