Butley Village Hall

The Village Hall at Butley has much to offer; a spacious, well-equipped hall with capacity up to 100 set in a large, attractive playing field with easy parking for all your needs.

The facilities are ideal for any occasion including meetings or away days  for voluntary and commercial organizations. The hall is well equipped with chairs and tables, accessible facilities and the use of the kitchen is included in all bookings at no extra cost.

The extensive playing field offers the opportunity for the erection of tents or marquees and the play area makes it the perfect venue for family social events, weddings or children’s’ parties. Camping and caravanning is welcome by arrangement and there are several rallies held over the course of the year.

The Hall is currently used every Tuesday morning for the local Mothers and Toddlers group, every third Thursday for the Women’s Institute, every Wednesday evening through the winter for Short Mat Bowls and the Council Meetings are held there.

We offer competitive, flexible hire rates, with discounts for residents of Butley, Chillesford, Capel and Wantisden. To discuss your requirements please contact Mrs. Di Beattie on 01394 450111 or by email di@dibeattie.plus.com

To those visitors to our website these notes will give you some idea as to how Villages such as these three start to talk about ideas.  The Village Hall is an integral part of life and to see it die would be so sad, and an injustice, to those that over the years have fought to maintain it's very existence.  The notes of the meeting have not been edited by me, the clerk so as to give you the feel of what happens when a lot of supportive villagers come together.

NOTES OF THE MEETING ON MONDAY 11TH JULY in the VILLAGE HALL TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE FUTURE ACTIVITIES

There were around 20 people who attended and many voiced their ideas for more activities in ans around the VH. Here is a brief synopsis and actions that should be/have been taken.

Notes: 1. EXERCISE: As part of the FIT VILLAGES we will run 2 sessions of exercise activity. This is being supported by Sports Suffolk who will provide the professional leader.f.o.c.

1 session will be Yoga/Pilates/Tai Chi whatever the wish of the group is. TUESDAY WILL BE THE DAY.

The 2nd session will be fitness aerobic and held on a separate night. The future will depend on the take-up by people. Friday DESIGNATED.

COST: INITIALLY IT WILL  BE QUITE LOW UNTIL THE EIGHT SESSIONS ARE OVER THEN WE WILL NEED TO SET A LEVEL. Given that there is a little cost in the hire of the hall it should be relatively cheap. It all depends on support.:contact RONAGH

2.SINGING; There was indicateda great wish for some sort of singing undefined in terms of what type(choral,C&W?) Following the meeting Sarah Brown has found a leader for this and he has indicated a MONDAY was possible for him. Contact:SARAH

3 ARTS/CRAFTS AND RELATED ACTIVITIES: Gillian Plummer has said that she would helprun any activity with Mary McGinity and will gather support at the flower show. They are putting together a flyer for the F.S. 8 weeks with up to 4 themes to establish any particular wish/demand. Contact:GILLIAN

4.SHORT MAT BOWLS; Marian Collins indicated that they are lacking numbers and it was suggested some sort of pushing for new members should take place at the Flower Show. This takes place in Autumn/Winter on WEDNESDAY. Contact:MARIAN

THIS ESSENTIALLY FILLS THE WEEK!

Other Ideas:

a) Book Club: Evening sessions. It was thought that this could be done in a person's house as the numbers may be limited and it would be easier to start with.   NEED A LEADER

B) Film Night: There was a deal of support for something along the lines of a film night but we need to check licensing. Do we want Art House, Classics from the 30's or blockbusters.

How do we hire equipment? at what cost?Weekends?

David McGinity. Agreed to investigate these aspects and speak with East Anglian Film people as well as the Peasenhall Picture Palace(!) to get the low-down and to assess viability. This will be done so that if we can get something started, it would be advertised and tickets sold at the HARVEST SUPPER.   AIM; Late NOVEMBER on a SATURDAY.

C) drama Club: Since Sam left no-one else has shown an interest. If someone comes along then we should support.

d): BOULES; We will be having a Boules demonstartion at the FLOWER SHOW and if there is a positive response we can look at setting up a court. If the response is good and we have a leader then we can discuss the financing of a court some where in the field. Now would be a good time as there is a lot more money available under the OLYMPIC banner and so we can use that.

ACTION; Monitor the interests on FS day and see if there is anyone prepared to run with this. PC could consider financial support.

e) HAPPENINGS ON A THEME; Most other villages bring people in for talks-Are we steeping on the WI's toes? The idea was to have talks on a theme supported by food.

f): GOAL POSTS; To allow the children to have a kick about we should put up1 set of goal posts-between the trees and then they can play without getting in anyone's way. ACTION; DAVID to find out how we can get money for this, F>A? Sport Suffolk?Olympics?

g) Tennis Coaching? Not sure how : need asomeone to run with this

h) Table Tennis: All we need is a table and the bats and balls. ASgain when? A leader?

HARVEST SUPPER; We are still planning a supper which loooks like Saturday the 29th October. Liz Holt suggested a capella to sing then and was to check it out.

ACTION: Sub-Committee of VH to organise the HS with food, drink and entertainments.

ACTION; Liz to sound out the Capella!!
