Wantisden is by far the smallest in population
of the three parishes and mostly consists of just one farm and an
ancient woodland. Most of the parishioners work and live on the
farm estate.
An off-shoot of the farming business is
Wantisden Valley, which hosts Weddings, Balls, Parties and in the
past has hosted the Power of the Past.
The only other business is a caravan site which
is open most of the year and which has a shower block, electric
points and many amenities.
Since the woodland, known as Staverton Forest,
is an SSSI there is no Right to Access but there are designated
footpaths which make very interesting walks. It is said that there
is a round table in Orford Castle which was made from a cross
section of a tree in this woodland. Also that King Henry VIII’s
sister Mary Rose picnicked under one of the trees when visiting
Butley Priory.
Although there is only a small population
Wantisden has a church which has 3 services a year these are
Rogation, Harvest and Christmas Carol these are all well supported
by people from as far afield as Ipswich.
The Church is 11th/12th Century and has one of
the finest Norman Arches in the country and a Saxon Font so is of
great interest to Church
architects.
