Chantry
Residents Association currently have two
sub-committee's;
Chantry Youth Development Initiative (CYDI) which was formed
in 1997 to provide freely accessible leisure resources for the
young people of Chantry.
After 4
years of fund raising CYDI had a basketball court built at Stone
Lodge just by the Library on Hawthorn Drive, IPSWICH.
Since
the court has been built the children are seen playing basketball
during most out of school hours. Chantry High School have even said
that since the court has been built the children’s performance of
the game has improved immensely due to the extra practice time the
court permits.
CYDI
recently applied for funding from the Local Network Fund who
awarded us a grant to enable us to provide a very successful
coaching programme during the school summer holidays.

Lark in the park is
the second sub-committee under Chantry Residents Association which
was set up in 2002 to organise a community fun day in June which is
held on Gippeswyk Park for the people of Chantry.
The
event has been very successful and has grown throughout the years
and last year around 2000 people attended.
The
emphasis of the day is for the community to come and have fun we do
not necessarily make a lot of money at this event, although any
money that is made goes back into the community via the running of
our community shop or holding community events throughout the year
like children's parties (eg Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc), or
organising coach trips.
Arena
acts in the past have included the Silver Spinners majorettes,
Egyptian dancers, Colini the Magician, Its-a-knockout tournament,
display by an Ipswich Fencing Group and a daring stunt display by a
BMX team.
Around the park we have lots of other activities going on
to keep you occupied during the day including; car boot, bouncy
castle, ability testing ball games, tombola stall, children’s
rides, prize draw, cake stall, ‘throw the wellie’, visit the local
Community Police Officers in their police ‘pod’, charity stalls,
hair braiding and face painting, raffle, dog show, ‘Beat the
Goalie’ with the Community Caretakers and much
more.
