CHEDISTON PRAYER GROUP
A small group of parishioners have formed a Prayer
Group. They meet on the first Wednesday of the month at
8 a.m. in either the church or the school room for 20 minutes of
prayer and bible reading. If anyone would like to join
you will be made very welcome. It is good to have this
20 minutes of peace and quiet in our hectic
lives.
NEWS
OF CHEDISTON CHURCH TOWER/BELLS
IMPROVEMENTS

CHURCH BOUNDARY
WALL
REPAIRS
Work has commenced (July7) by contractors, Ian King, upon the
repairs to the historic flint boundary wall to the church grounds
(between the Church Notice and Trinity Cottage). The
work is necessary in order to prevent further loss of flints and
consequential loss of moulded copings. In some areas of
partial collapse extensive 'opening up' will be required to ensure
an adequate bond is achieved between new and
old. Wherever possible the original materials will be
reclaimed and reused.

HELP
REQUIRED
As you will have read, Chediston have been awarded a Heritage
Lottery Fund Grant enabling the repairs to the Church tower and the
Refurbishment and recommissioning of the bells to proceed. At
present I am negotiating contracts with a view to the work starting
shortly.
In order to save monies the Bellhangers are willing to use any
volunteer labour from the village and this could amount to a
considerable saving. I am looking for volunteers to carry out
general labouring works (no more strenuous than heavy
gardening!). This would be required some time in June this
year plus dates in January and February 2009. You would need
to supply overalls and maybe steel toecap shoes; safety helmets
would be supplied and full Health and Safety Insurance cover would
be provided by the contractor.
If you think that you can help on one or all
of these dates, please contact me ASAP - 01986-785440 or via the
'Contact Us' tab on this
website.

Chediston Church
Redecoration
Following the recent damp proofing works to the
Church, the lime-washing to most of the
internal
lime-rendered areas has just been completed. The photo
to the left shows the 'before'; the three others show the
'after'. The lowest metre of lime render has been
deliberately left unpainted in order to better assist the
drying of the walls. As can be seen, this has all greatly
improved the look of the inside of the Church in readiness for
the Christmas services. Due to the present ambient
temperatures the full effect of the lime-washing may not
become apparent until some further drying out to the material
has taken place. We shall review the finish in the
Spring and if necessary add another coat. The work has been
carried out with great care by Ian King
Ltd (01502-740143) under David Mantell's
supervision.

The PCC is grateful to those who have offered monies to assist with
the purchase of the
lime-wash; further
offers would be very helpful indeed as we shall receive an
invoice in the very near future. To make a donation
