The Hadleigh Swimming Pool is
nearing the end of its operational life, so the Council has
launched a Feasibility Study to determine if a new pool is
affordable. This is about to commission a team of architects to
produce costings for 2 alternative sites - the existing one at
Stonehouse Road and the other on the Hadleigh High School
site. A report back is due in Spring 2007.
Last year, a decision by the Strategy Committee relating to
expenditure on a project office for a major IT project appeared to
some members of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, myself
included, to preempt decisions on the 2006-7 budget. We asked
for a Call-In to review that decision but to our surprise were told
this was not constitutional. A small task group has been
studying this situation and is making proposals for changes to the
rules at the meeting of Strategy Committe on 16/11/06. This
is very important as without an effective Call-In process a
possible future ruling political group could be unchallengable as
to the decisions it took. Watch this
