Creeting St Peter vicar

As a result of Christine Everett's retirement last year, we are currently 'in vacancy'.  However we are extremely lucky to have a dedicated group of volunteer ministers, working hard to meet the needs of the four parishes in the benefice, including Creeting St Peter.  In the first instance of anything to do with the church, please contact either Alice Mathewson, Churchwarden on 722271 or Revd. Barbara Gallagher, Local Priest on 711337.  Thank you

Christmas at Creeting St Peter Church

It was very good to see so many people in church over Christmas, luckily it was not so cold this year.   We had various different events and services, starting with Father Christmas switching on the Church Lights.  This was organised by the Friends of Creeting St Peter Church, who raise funds to maintain the fabric of the building, and the PCC. Next was the Toy and Gift service.
Donations of toys and gifts were made for the West Villa Homeless Family Centre in Ipswich. As always, the church looked magical lit by candles for the Carol Service.  It is lovely to see the church full for such an occasion. Special thanks for all the extra effort made to make the Church look so special for Christmas: Flowers - Mrs Pennel, Mrs Martin, Mrs French, Mrs Wrinch and Mrs Risby; Christmas Tree -donated by Mr Wrinch and decorated by the Mathewsons and Hitts; Floodlighting - Mr Warnes; Carol service candles - Mr and Mrs Pennel; Organ playing, despite a bad cold - Janet Bailey; Parking – Mrs Sims for use of her field and Ken for directing; All the readers; All those who made
refreshments.

Village Pub

Last month’s Quiz was a lot of fun.  We really could have not fitted one more person into the Church Room for the hotly contested competition.  There were people standing in
corners and sitting on knees!  Russell and Steve did a fantastic job.

The next Pub is on Friday 20 April.

Church Room availability

Friends of Creeting St Peter Church

Nearly two decades ago, St Peter’s Church was facing possible closure; the Nave and Chancel roof were leaking badly and the West wall was cracking but the regular congregation was shrinking and, with it, income. Several people in the village and surrounding area, the majority not churchgoers or of CofE denomination did not want this to happen, particularly as the church was the last community building in the area. So the ‘Friends’ was formed to raise money to pay for the repair and maintenance of the fabric of the church.

Over the years, we have organised a wide variety of fund raising activities, including an Auction of Promises, many different music concerts in the church and elsewhere, fashion shows and Lighting the Church. Our most recent event was the Harvest Horkey, which consisted of a two course hot meal and an evening’s entertainment by Winston the Singing Farmer – a good time was had by all!

We always welcome new faces into our happy band for the social activities. You don’t have to be a churchgoer to join, merely to have an interest in keeping the church in decent repair for future generations, as previous generations have done for the last several hundreds of years. For further information, please telephone our secretary Mrs Houndsfield on 774911 for details of our next meeting or gathering.

Church Cleaning

If anybody feels they could volunteer to clean the church for two hours once a month, we would be pleased to hear from them.
