** The PCC has
published a third book, written by the Local History
Recorder, Ron Reeve and called "When Constabulary Duty's to Be
Done", the book tells how in 1914, the small county of East Suffolk
suddenly became a militarised zone, was bombed from the air,
bombarded from the sea and how this affected the people and how the
East Suffolk Police dealt with situations previously
unimagined.

The name of our village of derives from Deores Ham - home of the
deer. This name is borne out by early reference to local roadways
as chaseways, there still being hunting in the area as late as the
18C.
Conveniently situated half-way between Ipswich & Lowestoft,
astride the A. 12 road, Darsham is a mixed community with six
farms. Over the past few years the village has lost its school,
shop and post office; the garage, now primarily a petrol station,
has a cafe and a well stocked shop, and a vehicle tyre service;
there is also a farm shop, a hand made tile manufactory, a public
house, a pottery, a builder, seed and feed merchants, an irrigation
concern, a national chain restaurant and a cafe. A private nursing
home and a cycle hire business provide a service for those who
require it.
Public transport is provided by rail, Darsham Rail Station being
on the - Ipswich - London route; and a bus service to Saxmundham
& Leiston; with another on the Southwold- Halesworth-Aldeburgh
route.
Local children attend primary school at Yoxford; the middle
school at Saxmundham; and the high school at Leiston, There is a
health centre at Saxmundham & another at Leiston, whose Doctors
hold a local surgery at Yoxford three times a week. Both provide
good medical care for Darsham's population of about three hundred
souls.
