Air Training Corps Cadets
RAFA's main fundraising campaign is the Wings Appeal each September, when the Diss and District branch collects in the area around the town.

RAFA gets no direct Government funding so the annual Wings Appeal is essential in ensuring that we are able to continue to provide advice, support and welfare to any serving and former members of the RAF and their dependants who are in need. We are helped with collections by the Diss Air Training Corps squadron (Air Cadets).

But fundraising goes on all the year with barbecues, dances and a stall which is set up at various events. We are always grateful to those who give us money.

All money raised goes to support the charitable work of RAFA.

Wings Appeal 2010
For various reasons a number of planned events did not take place - but the house-to-house collections and collections at a number of stores went ahead. We were helped by cadets of 1070 Diss ATC and personnel from RAF Honington. As a result we were able to send £3,149 to RAFA headquarters for Wings Appeal.

Wings Appeal 2010
In spite of the recession and the bad summer weather the branch increased the amount raised for Wings Appeal for the third year running. A total of £9,104 was sent to RAFA headquarters, compared with £8,760 in 2009 and £7,926 in 2008. The total included many fund-raising events and collections throughout the year as well as Wings Week collections.
Air Cadets from 1070 Diss Squadron Air Training Corps and RAF Regiment personnel from Honington helped with the collections.

Our stall at the Harleston Family Fun Day on August Bank Holiday took £435. This means that we have raised over £2,000 during the last two weeks of August alone.

Below are pictures of the New Year party and dance held at Thorpe Abbots Village Hall. More than 60 people attended the event which raised over £200 for RAFA.

A cheque for £2,325 was presented to area director Ken Clarke when he visited the branch in November. The presentation was made chairman Herbert Websdell and treasurer Julie Websdell. The money came from Salute to the RAF and various fund-raising efforts which they had organised.
