If you served in the Royal Air Force and you or your family need help or if you know of anyone who served in the RAF and either they or their family need help, please contact us.

The main reason the RAFA exists is to provide welfare support. This can vary widely. A visit and a friendly chat or a bit of advice is all that some people want. But we can offer much more. There may be a need for a one-off cash payment or a regular grant. Others may need wheelchairs or other aids to mobility. Or perhaps transport to hospital.

RAFA also has residential homes which offer respite care as well. We can arrange for someone to stay at one of them and also arrange transport there.

One thing you can be assured of is that any problems will be treated in the strictest confidence and in a friendly manner. We aim to deal with any request promptly.

These pictures remind us that RAF personnel have recently served in Iraq and are serving in Afghanistan. A number of them will need support when they return, as will the families of those who have been killed or injured. (Pictures are Crown Copyright & used with permission from the RAF).

Parcels for the Regiment 2010

The branch has continued to send parcels to RAF Regiment Personnel from Honington who  are serving in Afghanistan. Ninety parcels have been dispatched during 2010 and 2011 to members of II Squadron, I Squadron and XV Squadron. Brian and Maureen Ager packing parcelsShoe-boxes are used to provide secure packaging for such items as toothpaste, soap and shampoo, which they find useful, plus sweets and biscuits. Herbert and Julie Websdell have a sample of the parcels' contents which they displayed at the 2010 Armed Forces Day celebration in Diss and as a result collected over £80 - enough for about eight parcels. Money for the parcels has come from branch funds, gifts from members and donations from the public.

Two Squadron RAF Regt from Honington deployed to Afghanistan in October. We intend to send parcels to them early in 2012 - since we are asked by the Ministry of Defence not to overburden the postal system in the Christmas period, when families send out seasonal gifts.

Anyone who would like to contribute or make up a parcel themselves please contact secretary Brian Ager tel: 01379 640337 email: ager.brian@googlemail.com or you can make an online donation right now by clicking the "donate now" button which will take you to our page on the Charity Choice website. The site is 100% secure.

Nigel goes to Afghanistan

Sgt Nigel Millar is the latest man from Honington to receive a parcel from our branch - along with a letter of thanks for all the help he has given us as RAF liaison officer. Nigel has been posted to Afghanistan, so we have a new liaison officer (RAFALO) Sgt Kevin Sawyer, who we welcomed to our April meeting.
