Burgh’s schoolroom was built in 1835 just outside the churchyard of
the Church of England parish church of St Botolph, Burgh.
It is owned by the church and since the school closed in 1875 it
has principally been used for Sunday school, after-service coffee,
church meetings and fund raising events (church fetes, flower shows
etc).

It is a delightful little building, hardly changed since it was
built. There is no running water and an outside, chemical privy.
Its lack of modern facilities limits its ability to serve the
demands of the community.

The church and adjacent old schoolroom are the only public
buildings in
Burgh. The results of the village survey demonstrate the
desire for communal space. The parish church is managed by the
Parochial Church Council (PCC). The PCC is also responsible
for the upkeep of the schoolroom, which it owns. The PCC have
agreed to make the Schoolroom available to the community as a
whole but the building requires modern facilities and the
means to cover running costs and regular maintenance.
"Friends of Burgh Schoolroom" was set up jointly by the PCC and the
(civil) Parish Meeting to provide modern facilities to the
Schoolroom and then run it as a community
resource.
