You may have your plot locally, but there is a much wider
Allotment "movement". There is a body of law protecting
allotment sites, and there are County and National Societies to
further the "cause". There are even international
relationships within the allotment world!
Felixstowe Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners [new name
2010] is a member of the Suffolk Society of Allotment & Leisure
Gardeners, [The
"SSALG"] which is
in turn affiliated to the National Society of Allotment &
Leisure Gardeners
["NSALG"].
Click the links to find out more about these two organisations
and this important aspect of Allotment Gardening. These
organisations exist at County and National levels to promote
allotment gardening and bring allotment holders together. They also
play an important part in protecting sites from encroachment by
would-be developers and know the relevant law intimately.
Recently the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners
helped Sherringham to win against Tesco to preserve their plots!
There are many other victories – with the notable exception of the
Olympic games site!! There are other sites at risk including some
in Suffolk. The Suffolk Society site will have the list. By
belonging we all help each other when push comes to shove.
