Trying to print exactly what you want is
not easy. How often have you pressed the print button expecting one
page and getting about 16, particularly when you are printing from
the internet.
There are a number of things that you can do to stop this
happening but let’s first deal with stopping the printer once it
has started:
1. Take the blank paper out of the printer feeder. This will buy
you time so that you don’t start to panic and press every button in
sight!!
2. Click on Start, Control Panel, double click on Printers &
Faxes
3. Double Click on the printer icon and then click Printer,
Cancel All Documents
4. Wait until all of the printer jobs have been deleted (this
could take a little while depending on the size of the files
waiting to be printed).
Your computer printing memory should now be clear and you can
start again. However, when you put the paper back into your printer
you MAY get another half page or so of text. This is because some
printers have a small buffer memory and you are just clearing
that.
Printing from the internet:
Unfortunately, web pages do not conform to a specific size so
consequently you will find that they do not always fit on a piece
of A4 paper.
A lot of reputable websites (e.g. BBC, RSPB) now offer you a
‘printer friendly version’ of each of their web pages. Just look
for the words ‘printer version’ or ‘printer friendly’ and you will
get a text only version of the page. Then just print in the normal
way.
If this is not possible, you can select which bit of the page
you want to print:
1. Click at the beginning of the piece of text you want to
print
2. Hold down the Shift key (the one you use for individual
capitals) and click at the end of the piece of text (you will see
that the text becomes highlighted between your 2 clicks)
3. Click File, Print
4. Click on Selection and then click Print again.
Your printer will now only print the piece of text you
selected.
If you want to print the whole of the web page including
graphics without losing the right hand side:
1. Click File, Page Setup
2. Choose Landscape
3. Click File, Print, Print
And finally, if all else fails, you can copy most web pages into
Microsoft Word and they will fit on to a piece of paper.
1. Click at the top left of the web page, hold down the left
hand mouse button and drag all the way to the bottom right of the
page
2. Click Edit, Copy (if you are using Internet Explorer 7, click
Page, Copy)
3. Click Start, Microsoft Word
4. Click Edit, Paste
5. Now print in the normal way
