The Fressingfield Neighbourhood Watch is a volunteer organisation set up to assist the residents of the parish and the Suffolk Constabulary. (The Watch acts as a go-between).

Northern central Suffolk is one of the lowest crime areas is the United Kingdom. The main aim of the Neighbourhood Watch is to ensure that it remains so.

However, some crime is still committed in the area. More will occur if residents become complacent. The Watch provides frequent updates on crime trends in the area through the medium of the Five Alive magazine.

A dedicated team of Local Contacts has been formed so that each and every resident can contact the Watch on a personal, neighbour to neighbour basis. A complete list of Local Contacts and their areas of responsibility is available by clicking on the box at the top of this page. If your address is not listed please contact one of the scheme co-ordinators direct.

Fressingfield has a dedicated Community Police Officer. He is PC Tim Green - No 1207.  The police operations control centre, on 01473 613500, can connect you to his voicemail answering service.

Meetings of the Watch are held on the second Thursday of every other month and all residents of Fressingfield are cordially invited to attend. See What's on for details.

The Suffolk Constabulary are very supportive of Neighbourhood Watch schemes in all respects except finance. The local Watch has to obtain funding, or raise finance, to cover all its operations. It is enthusiastically supported by, but not part of, Fressingfield Parish Council.

The joint co-ordinators of the Fressingfield Neighbourhood Watch are Robin Rampley and Peter Vincent. Their contact telephone numbers can be found at the top of this article. Please feel free to contact them, or any of the Local Contacts, on any matter relating to crime, security, policing or allied subjects.   IN ALL CASES OF EMERGENCY CONTACT THE POLICE ON – 999

NOTICES

1. We are pleased to report that the parish has been relatively crime free over the last few months. We hope this situation will continue.

2. We all enjoy a quiet walk around the village and many of us take our dogs with us. Please ensure that your dog is kept under control at all times and causes no upset to other persons or animals. When you are at home, please ensure that your dog is in a secure area and is not free to wander around the village.

3. Suffolk Police are still advising that trailers, of all kinds, are kept securely locked and, whenever possible, inside a locked building. There have been several thefts of these items in the local area over the last few months.

4. Police report that squatters have moved into several empty properties in Mid Suffolk. If you own such a property, or live close to one, please be vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Weekend and holiday ‘cottages’ are also at risk.

5. The price of domestic heating oil is currently very high. This has led to it becoming an attractive target for thieves. Ensure that your oil tank is secure and check the contents regularly.

6. We ask drivers to take special care when driving through the village and ensure that they obey the speed limits. We like Fressingfield children the way they are – alive!

7. In one or two recent incidents the victim of a crime has stated that they have not informed the police because of a view that the police will not be interested and will take no useful action. We are all entitled to our own views - but remember this: The police certainly cannot take action if they are not made aware of the problem. It only takes a couple of minutes to telephone 01473 613500 (The Suffolk Police Operations Room) and report a crime. (999 in emergency situations). If you inform the FNW as well, then we will ensure that the police do take action. (We watch the police as well as the area)!

8. The Suffolk Police operate an Intelligence Hotline on 01284 774029. Any person can call this number with information that could be of assistance to them. It is an answering machine service that is checked daily. This means that you can leave anonymous messages if you so desire. Or, if you leave your contact details, they will call you back later. This number should NOT be used for emergency calls.

9. The Suffolk Constabulary has resumed the system of informing Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators of crimes in their local area. From these reports we see that there has been a rise in the number of house burglaries in the villages of North Suffolk. One was as close as Metfield. Please ensure that your house and outbuildings are kept locked and secure.

10. Fressingfield Neighbourhood Watch meetings are held every other month. In 2009 meetings will take place on Apr 9th/Jun11th/Aug13th/Oct8th and Dec 10th. The Sports and Social Club is the venue and 7.30pm is the time. Everyone is welcome to attend and take part in the discussions.

11. Change of Coordinator. The village Neighbourhood Watch has two Coordinators and fifteen Local Contacts. Since the setting up of the watch five years ago the Coordinators have been Robin Rampley and Ben Symonds. Ben is now standing down and his duties have been taken over by Peter Vincent. Local Contacts for the various areas of the parish are unchanged and Ben will still be responsible for the rural areas of Metfield Road, Cratfield Road and the Gulles Green area.

12. Keep watching…
