Chippenhall Green, which contains forty acres, is the sole
survivor of large tracts of Common Land which lay close to the
boundary of the parish. As an unimproved grassland habitat, it has
been notified by the Nature Conservancy Council as a site of
special scientific interest. No record exists of the enclosure of
Great Whittingham Green, Little Whittingham Green, Gules Green,
Ufford Green and Butcher's Green. It is likely most survived into
the eighteenth century. Enclosure of the fifty one acre Hussey
Green took place in 1796. Those with Rights of Common do not own
the soil but freely enjoy what another's land
produces.
