Parking in Claydon

Complaints have been received that some vehicles far exceed the 30 minute waiting time outside the businesses in the Street. Limited Time Parking was introduced several years ago give a more frequent turn round of parking spaces available to help the shops etc get more business; this obviously also helps those customers who may otherwise carry on and not use our local shops. Also the unlimited time parking spaces in Church Lane are often used as long term parking (sometimes for days) and private car sales which again restricts customer parking for businesses in Claydon. Should these spaces also be restricted to 30 minutes? Please let us know what you think.

To help solve these problems the Police will shortly adopt zero tolerance of the enforcement of the parking restrictions in Claydon. The Zero Tolerance will also apply to those illegally parked on the pavement, double yellow lines etc in the Main Street and Station Road. Note we also understand that the sale of vehicles on the road side, including grassed areas, is illegal. The Parish Council will liaise with the Police and Suffolk County Council to see if there is a long term solution to this problem of parking near our shops and businesses. 23/07/11

Faulty Street Lights

Just a reminder that you can report a faulty lamp by telephoning Suffolk County Councils free phone number 0800 591055 giving the lamp number and location. You can of course still report them to our clerk with the same information; however this is not a free phone number. 3/12/2010

HGV ban through Claydon.

For several years we have been asking Suffolk County Council Highways to correct their oversight and complete the HGV ban in our community to protect the routes to our Schools. We have, at long last, had some success Suffolk County Council proposes to increase the HGV ban along the entire length of Claydon Church Lane. However their plan allow HGV's to travel from Barham Church Lane into Thomhill Road to Edinburgh Gardens where they will have to turn right into Bacon Road then back to Barham Church Lane. Claydon and Whitton Parish Council had requested that the banned area protect the whole of the 3 estates in Claydon and Barham; it appears that the only extra cost to do so would be one set of illuminated traffic signs. This means that the routes to Claydon Primary School are not protected from HGV traffic; please contact your Suffolk County Councilor (John Field 831306) or the Parish Council if you wish to comment.

Claydon Traffic Survey

The Parish Council have recently been given the results of an independent traffic survey in Claydon which shows that HGVs are still illegally using our roads; this information was passed to the relevant authorities with a request for a check by Trading Standards and the Police via Suffolk County Council. As a result we understand, from the Police that some HGV operators have been sent letters warning them not to use this illegal route. If you spot HGVs using this route you can report them using this form. 25/11/10
