Great Barton Parish Council meetings usually take
place on the third Monday of every month, except August. They are
held in The Community Room of the Village Hall at 7.15 pm. All
meetings are advertised on the village notice board and on this web
site.
All Parish Council meetings are public meetings and everyone is
welcome to attend. The job of the Council is to represent the
interests of the whole community. Parish Councils can: give
views on planning applications and other proposals that affect the
parish; undertake projects that benefit local residents; work in
partnership with others to benefit the parish; advise relevant
authorities of problems or action that is needed; and help the
other tiers of local government to engage with, and understand
their local communities. Great Barton voters also have an
opportunity to speak to The Council on any matter relating to the
village. This opportunity is given at the beginning of each
meeting. There is also an open public session at the end of the
meeting.
If you raise or comment on a topic which is on the agenda for that
meeting, Councillors will be able to take account of your views
when that subject is discussed although you will not be able to
have any further input yourself. If you speak on a matter which is
not on the current meeting agenda, your topic will not be discussed
at that council meeting, but the Council may consider including it
at a future
meeting.
You can also raise matters of concern at any time with one of your
Councillors. In this way, they can act as your voice on the council
and ensure that your views are made known.
The Clerk provides advice on law and procedure and administrative
support & also takes action to implement Council decisions and
policy.
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT
The Freedom of Information Act made it the duty of every public
authority to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme. It
obliges Parish Councils to provide information in response to
requests made by members of the public and through a Publication
Scheme, which contains the contact details of the Council, the
classes of information which the Council holds, common information,
activities and functions of a Parish Council.
Gt Barton's Publication Scheme
The Parish Council adopted a
complaints procedure in July 2009 which is
reviewed
annually.
