The Village Hall Management Committee were
pleased to welcome RAF Honington Station Voluntary Band to the
Village Hall on Saturday 12th April for their second
year performance of “Last Night of the Proms”.
The Village Hall was packed and over 150 enthusiastic people
attended the event and all the proceeds for the concert are going
towards funding an extension off the main hall that should be
constructed next year. The demand for tickets was so great
that some people were disappointed.

The Director of Music for the Voluntary
Band is Mr TW Milford BA (Music) LRSM. The band is made up of
34 musicians and their function is to represent the RAF at a
diverse programme of engagements ranging from marching parades,
private functions, dinner nights and concerts.
The Mezzo Soprano was Julie Baxter
and the Piper was Sergeant Dave Harper. The very varied
programme ranged from Colonel Bogey, to the Dambusters, to the
regular Proms finale of Fantasia on British Sea Songs,
Jerusalem and Pomp and Circumstance No 1 finishing with the
RAF March Past.
The evening was a great success and next year’s
event with the RAF Voluntary Band is already being planned.
