Church News:
A few of us worked very hard in February to tidy
up the track up to the church, cutting back dead Elm and
overhanging thorn and brambles. Our thanks to the chain saw gang
and hard working supporters who kept them going by clearing
away.
If this sounds fun, there’s more to do this
winter, watch this space
HELP
We are looking for someone to play our new church organ. If
you can help or know someone who would be interested in doing this
for our services please let us know.
We also have some small maintenance jobs which
need to be undertaken at the church (ie pointing some areas of the
stone floor etc). Again if you can help or know someone
please let us know.
If you require any further information on either
of the above, please
contact Justin on 850769

SUMMER EVENING
SERVICES
So far these have been going well and our thanks
to all those who’ve helped clean and arrange flowers.
Our next Summer Evening Services will be at 4 pm
on:
August 16th – Liz Chenery
September 6th - with Fiona Evans as guest Lay Reader from
Denston
HARVEST FESTIVAL will be on 11th
October at 11 am, followed by a
harvest lunch. This is instead of a harvest supper, to avoid
competition with the village hall Quiz Night at the end
of October. Watch the village notice board for further
details.
INDUCTION
On Monday 28th
September, is the induction service for our new vicar, Rev Dr Roger
Brooks. This will be held at Chevington Church in the evening, and
will include drinks etc afterwards.
Please let Justin know on 01284 850 769 if you
would like to come, to help us with numbers for catering
afterwards. Thanks.

Items donated to St
Edmundsbury Church.
As the Methodist Church in Hargrave has had to close, the members
have elected to donate some of their pieces to St Edmunds Church.
Hence we have a splendid organ, hymn board, side table and large
cross. We are pleased that they have entrusted us with these things
and it does mean that they will be staying in the
Village.
Progress on St Edmund Church repairs
We have applied for
an English Heritage grant for replacing the north aisle and
north side of the nave roof completely. These take about two
years to progress to actual building work.
So, in the meantime
(and in case our grant application is unsuccessful) this summer
has seen much needed repairs carried out, including repairing
some cracks in the tower roof, repairs to the main ridge, and
replacing some slipped slates on the nave and north aisle
roofs.
We were able to use
the opportunity to have the architect inspect the roof’s more
closely in support of our grant. We have had the
electrics inspected by a qualified electrician and some minor
maintenance is required.
A big thank you very
much because none of this would have been possible without your
continuous and generous support!
Give and the
Chancellor gives to!
The amount we are
likely to raise from village events, which we all enjoy, is more
difficult to predict, and more regular donations give us greater
scope to plan work ahead. If you are able to pledge
a regular amount monthly or annually, however small, this has
the benefit of attracting an additional 20% from the government
(if you are a basic rate taxpayer). So for every £5 you
give, we get £6…what a deal!
