The tiny hamlet of Herringswell is situated in an
environmentally sensitive area in West Suffolk
Our Parish covers over 2,000 acres and has been known as many
different names through the ages, these include: Hadrinwell,
Haryngwelle, Herenswell, Herkingswell, Hernigawalla, Herynggeswell
and Hyrningwella.
Herringswell has seen human habitation since the very earliest
of Stone Age times when the climate and woodland had a similarity
to that of today with birch, pine and spruce with areas of open
grassland.

2007 Village of the Year Competition
"The Parish Council are pleased to announce
their place as a finalist in the Suffolk round of the Village of
the Year Competition.
"Judging of the village took place on Saturday 4 August and the
final result was announced on BBC Radio Suffolk on 10 August.
We are all extremely grateful to all the residents who have worked
so hard over the summer to ensure the village has looked its best
and we would like to thank everyone who has joined the Parish
Councillors in welcoming the judges to the Village and assisting
with the endless jobs that have been undertaken by a quiet army of
willing and able residents and Councillors.
"Rachel Sloane (BBC Radio Suffolk presenter) praised the village
for their enthusiasm and genuine community spirit. It is her
wish, and that of the Parish Council, that we continue to work
towards chieving the title of Village of the Year in the
future.
"We had some tough competition from the other villages and we have
areas within the community that are challenging. All these
will be addressed in the future, affording us a better chance of
winning this much aclaimed title another year" - Liz
Marchington, Chairman, Herringswell Parish Council
