Welcome to the Ipswich and Suffolk Indian Association (ISIA).
ISIA is a not-for-profit community group, which has been in existence for over 30 years.
The Ipswich and Suffolk Indian Association (ISIA) started back in 1975.
Over the last thirty years, ISIA has provided information and support to the Indian community in Suffolk and events on Indian arts and culture to the wider community.
For the last five years ISIA has organised the Indian summer Mela here in the Ipswich area of Suffolk. Rich in colour, music, arts and culture, the Indian Summer Mela is a family event and was held in Christchurch Park in 2007 as part of the Ip-Art festival.
** 2008 Indian Summer Mela is on Sunday 13 July at Christchurch Park**
Membership of ISIA is not restricted to the Indian community, but is open to people from all walks of life who wish to learn and enjoy Indian culture or help improve the relationships between Indian people and the wider community in Suffolk.
Use the menu on the left to find out more about ISIA and what we do.

Springboard and Navigator Development Programmes
Suffolk County Council's Learning & Development team will be running the men's and woman's development programme Navigator and Springboard in 2008.
These programmes will allow delegates to think about their current work and life style and prompt them to acknowledge their achievements, set goals and help them plan for the future - whether that be at work or at home. This is also a confidence boosting programme which will help those employees who have been in a job for a considerable amount of time to come terms with change, and be able to plan and think positively for the future.
The Women's Springboard Programme starts on 1 February in Endeavour House in Ipswich, with 1 day per month over 4 months.
Navigator will commence in April and again is 1 day per month over 4 months.
Further information about these programmes can be found on: http://www.springboardconsultancy.com/springboard.htm and http://www.springboardconsultancy.com/navigator.htm
If you have any queries about these programmes or you receive any interest from staff, please direct them to the County Council's Human Resources Helpdesk in Customer Service Direct on 08456 053000 or by email at humanresources@csduk.com.
The Learning & Development team would very much appreciate your assistance in promoting these opportunities to employees, and encouraging them to think about what they want from their future career and/or life.
Many thanks and kind regards

Ipswich Music days – acts required
We have a stage at Ipswich Music Day each year in front of Christchurch Mansion and the East of England Co-operative Society is main event sponsor. We try and have a global feel to our stage as well as encouraging our Co-op groups to perform. Last year we had a wide variety of groups on our stage from the Co-op Juniors to our Ipswich and Norwich Co-op Brass Band together with Albino Cubana and the ICA Junior Steel Band.
We would love to have a traditional Indian music group on our stage this year, whether it be a youth group or an adult group, so that we can showcase their talents and listen to the fabulous music.
Music Day is on Sunday 6 July this year and will take place in Christchurch Park. We have 40 minute slots and all of the groups play for free as it is a free music festival. I am sure that you are aware of the event as it usually takes place before the Mela event in the park.
I hope that you may know of some groups that may be interested in performing on our stage this year. I would be grateful if you could email or telephone me with any information you have.
I look forward to hearing from you and if you have any quires or require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best wishes

'Sports for All in the Indian Community' Project
'Sports for All in the Indian Community' Project is running through its last year. We have limited funds available to run the sports activities and this being the last year we can not make a mistake of overspending money.
To cater the needs of majority of people, may I request you to please let the committee know what is/are your favorite sport activity/activities… so that we can make a preference list and then make those sports facilities available tentatively from first week of March?
Recently we introduced nominal participation fees for swimming (£ 1:50 per head) and football (£ 1.00 per head) which resulted in less number of participants. The reduced number of participants is either due to the winter season or due to the participation fees. I would like to know your frank opinion about this as well.
I request your help to make the project successful by providing your opinion, suggestions and preferences about the sports activities. …… like:
1. Your preference list from the following sports:
(Swimming, football, golf, karate, yoga, cricket, badminton.. any other sport)
2. Are you ready to pay the participation fees… if yes… how much?
3. What location is most convenient to you?
4. The most suited days in the week to attend the activity.
PLEASE be open and share your views with the committee. It will help the committee to cater for you in a better way. In case, (for whatever reasons) you are not interested in receiving the e-mails regarding the project, let me know... I shall remove your name from the mailing list.
Thank you,
Vinaya Kulkarni

ISCRE Stop and Search research project
You may be aware that ISCRE is about to start a piece of 'research' looking into the overrepresentation of Black and Minority ethnic people in Ipswich in relation to Stop and Search. The police are supporting this with the backing of Simon Ash the Chief Constable. (This is relevant particularly to Black, Asian and Chinese people).
Nancy will be leading on it and I would appreciate it if you either have issues/information that would support our work or make other people aware of it – we would be most grateful.
You can make contact with Nancy nancy@iscre.org.uk on 01473 408140 or the main office number below – be assured all contact will be treated with the utmost confidence and respect.
