Annual general meeting

The Agm was held on Wednesday 24th February 2010 in the Board Room, Suffolk New College, and the following Officers were elected:

Dr Sushil Soni , Chairman, Mr Umesh Patel, Vice chairman, Ms Lila Patel, Secretary, Mr Chandresh Patel, Treasurer. Committee Members: Mr Harshad Patel, Sachin Karale and Ashok Nathwani.

The following were elected Trustees, but will form part of the Executive Committee, due to the amendment in the Constitution.

Mr Sanjay Martin Spettigue, Chairman, Mrs Sujata Gathani, Mrs Hamlesh Soni, Mr Vinay Vasudeva and Mr Neil Salter/Patel.

Community Celebrations: Sunday 21st March at Wolsey New Theatre, 2.30pm

The Samaj will participate in the Ipswich Mayor's Community Celebrations on Sunday 21st March 2010 at 2.30pm at the Wolsey New Theatre. All members are invited to attend this celebration.

Hindu Cultural Centre/Mandir In Ipswich
We are in  the final stage of negotiations with the agents Fen Wright, acting for Landlord in London, and hope that the lease will be signed for the old Ipswich Buddhist Centre, 1-5 Throughfare, Ipswich, opposite the entrance to ICVS, as the Hindu Cultural Centre and Place of Worship (Mandir) by the end of March or in early April.

Fundings for the samaj's activities

*
£500 grant has been received from Suffoplk County councillor John Klachaska for cultural festivals.

* A grant of £9,926 has been received from Big Lottery Fund for the Project "Be Well and Live Well. The project entails for holding Yoga and aerobic classes  and provision of nutritional meal once a week for elderly persons.

* A grant of £4,000 has been received from the Ipswich Borough Council towards the payment of rent for the lease of the old Buddhist Centre, as the Hindu Cultural/community Centre and Place of Worship (mandir) 1-5 Throughfare, in the Ipswich town centre.

Bhajan Evening  

There will be no Bhajan Evening
 on Friday 19th March, due to the celebrations of Rama Naumi, the birthday of Lord Rama on Sunday 28th March.

Rama Naumi Celebration

Rama Naumi the birthday of Lord Rama will be celebrated on Sunday 28th March 2010 at Friends Meeting House, 39 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich, IP1 3JH, from 3pm to 7pm. The programme will comprise of bhajans, story on the birth of Lord Rama and of His importance in the Hindu Social & Cultural life in upholding the Hindu Dharma, Aarti and dances.

You may bring prasadam for offering at the Aarti.

Bharatnatyam 
Indian classical dance classes by Viji Moorthie

Bharatanatyam is form of dance-theatre originating India.

It combines rhythmic footwork and storytelling via mime.

If interested in beginner’s classes, workshops taster sessions or performances please contact her by email.

Ipswich Iskcon Group

The HareKrishna chanting and Bhagwad Gita reading programme for 2009 would be held at 19.30 hours (7.30pm) on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month at Flat3, 11 Great Colman Street, Ipswich IP4 2AA. Every third Friday of the month, the Samaj holds a Bhajan or Hawan evening at the Unitarian Church Hall adjacent to the Unitarian Meeting House, Friars Street, Ipswich, IP1 1TD at 7.30pm to 9.15pm. All are welcome.
