The Ipswich Hindu Samaj celebrates
festivals/events and conducts activities on a regular basis. These
are the few activities that were conducted in the year 2010.
Janmashtami:
The birth of Lord Krishna was celebrated by Ipswich Hindu
Samaj on Saturday 4th August 2010, at Quakers’ meeting hall
from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. Various activities
were conducted like story telling on Lord Krishna’s life, bhajans
by Chinmoy devotees, dance performances, Fancy Dress on theme of
Radha and Krishna. Towards the end of event, aarti was
sung and prasadam was distributed.
Indian Summer Mela: Samaj set up a stall
and a small shrine at this Mela on Sunday 11th July. Sanjay Martin
Spettigue, one of our Trustees, and Head of the Ipswich Chinmaya
Centre joined us at the stall with Shri Chinmaya publications. We
had sale of Indian Savoury, henna painting, face painting, sale of
jewellery and Indian clothes and raffle prizes.
Orwell Charity Walk: Dr. Sushil Soni and
Mr. Umesh Patel participated in the Orwell Charity Walk on Sunday
27th June 2010, and raised between them £700 for the samaj.
Navaratri: This was celebrated for two
weekends on Fridays & saturdays, 8th & 9th Oct and
15th & 16th Oct 2010 at the Friends meeting house.
Diwali: Samaj in conjunction with the
Ipswich & Suffolk Indian association celebrated Diwali with
Diwali Dinner Dance at the Council Chamber, Town Hall, on Saturday
30th October 2010. Also the Samaj held Diwali
Milan, on Monday 8th November to celebrate the Hindu
New Year, Vikram Samvat 2067, at the Suffolk New College. The event
was hosted by the college.
Ipswich Hindu Samaj Community Centre &
Mandir: On 5th November, Samaj, after year long
negotiations secured the keys of the premises 5 Thoroughfare,
Ipswich, IP1 1BX, formerly the Ipswich Buddhist Centre, and
celebrated Diwali on Saturday 6th November
with Bhajans and Puja from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
Children's Christmas Party: This was held
at the Samaj's Hindu centre on Sunday 19th December from 2pm to
6pm.
Ram Navami: Ram Navami was celebrated with
bhajans, spiritual readings, prasadam and refreshments
on Sunday 28th March 2010, from 3pm to 7pm at Quakers'
Meeting house.
Holi festival: Holi was celebrated with lot
of enthusiasm and fun at St. Clements Hospital Club on Sunday 28th
February 2010. The concept was of a mini mela and was attended
by about 250 people. There was lots of music, face painting,
mehendi and colouring activities for children. There were a
variety of mouth watering snacks to savour.
AGM: Annual General meeting was held on
Wednesday 24th February 2010. The AGM saw new members in the
Executive Committee and some new members in the trustees
board.
Mahashivratri: Mahashivratri was celebrated
with a bhajan evening on Friday 19th February 2010 at Unitarian
meeting hall.
Makar Sankranti: Makar Sankranthi was
celebrated on Friday 15th January 2010 with bhajan
evening at the Unitarian meeting
hall.
