Sex Education

Sex Education is provided in a context of respect for moral values, human relations and family life. The school’s Policy Statement is available on request. Children in Years 5 and 6 follow a course based upon a BBC Schools TV series. These programmes have a strong social as well as biological content, placing emphasis on human and family relationships.
Such lessons are an important part of our curriculum and it is expected that all children in the classes concerned follow them. Before the course commences, however, parents are invited to view the TV programme and indeed to discuss the video with the Teaching Staff.
Parents who wish their child to be wholly or partially withdrawn from sex education should contact the Headteacher. Alternative work will then be provided in by the class teacher and supervised by a Classroom Assistant. (It should be noted that parents do not have the right to withdraw children from those aspects of Sex Education that form part of the National Curriculum).
