History:
The first show was in 1956, after donations of £44.6s.0d were
donated by some parishioners and Fisons Ltd.
Over the years the venue has changed between Levington Village
Hall, The White House, Church Field, Broke Hall and now back at the
Village Hall.
Various ‘celebrities’ have opened the show including: Percy
Edwards (Birdsong Man), Ronald Blythe (Author of ‘Akenfield’),
Billy Dainty (Comedian), Tommy Trinder (Comedian), Leslie Crowther
(Comedian), Windsor Davies (It ain’t ‘arf hot Mum).
In addition to organising the Flower Show, the Committee have
held open garden afternoons at Levington Hall and regularly arrange
the village scarecrow festival [on one successful occasion in
partnership with the Parochial Church Council church flower
festival].
An annual Harvest Supper is held in the Autumn to which the
whole village is invited.
Altogether over £3,000 has been donated to various charities
including: Scanner Appeal, Nacton Sports Pavilion, Church Roof and
Gates, Heathside Special School, Suffolk Air Ambulance and the
Village Hall.
