The Ground can be found at the end of the lane, opposite
the village shop in Nacton.
History:
Definitely founded by 1787 as ‘Nacton and District’, it may have
been formed even earlier in the 18th Century, when much cricket was
played on Nacton Heath, along with much gambling.
The date of the move to Nacton village is unknown, but there was
certainly a green shed on the village ground in 1886, which lasted
for a further 98 years.
In 1901 Nacton and District were founder-members of the Ipswich
League, but there was little cricket played during and between the
wars. Indeed vegetables, mainly potatoes, were grown on the field
during the 2nd World War.
Cricket was revived in 1946 and past Chairman, Max Ralph,
(a Levingtonian) played continuously for the succeeding 50 years.
His son, Clive, is the Sunday Captain.
In 1984 a new pavilion was built as part of a community
project.
Football is played on the same field during the winter, however
the cricket wicket is now considered one of the best in the League,
thanks to the hard work of many helpers.
