Originally established in Levington by local mothers the
playgroup relocated to Nacton Village Hall in 1977 and adopted the
name Nacton & Bucklesham Under Five's. The accommodation
consists of a purpose-built classroom, a large hall and an enclosed
garden. Nacton Primary School is situated directly next door.
The Playgroup is open six sessions a week (Morning and
Afternoon: Monday – Thursday) during school term for children from
2 ½ to 5 years old. There are over 40 children on roll and with 7
experienced qualified staff, we maintain optimal staff to children
ratios, as well as being able to accommodate children with special
needs.
We are fortunate to be situated in beautiful countryside and
like to explore the locality by going for walks in the woods,
walking to the local farm fields to watch planting and harvesting,
looking for signs of the season such as icy puddles, frost, spring
flowers, conker collecting and the changing colour of leaves. We
also visit a local vegetable garden, the local shop and sports
field.
The Playgroup has been validated by Ofsted to allow 24 children
per session.
Our most recent report in June 2004 observed that “Nacton &
Bucklesham Under 5’s provides good quality care for children. Staff
work directly with the children in an inviting, rich and
stimulating environment”.
