Before

Two years ago in January, Lowestoft Together the Safer Stronger Communities Neighbourhood Management Project began a series of ‘street audits’ and resident consultation in some of the most deprived areas in Lowestoft. Organised by the Lowestoft Together Neighbourhood Manager and involving officers from WDC and SCC along with Ward Councillors and local residents the audits comprised of a ‘walk-about’ to view the areas combined with an opportunity for residents to contact the Neighbourhood Manager direct to raise issue of concern in their areas.

One of the outcomes of this work was the identifying of a number of un-adopted rear entry and access ways that were a cause of concern to local residents. The issues identified with these rear access-ways ranged from fly tipping, dog fouling and anti social behaviour to poor surfacing causing a trip hazard.

Working with SCC Highways department and local Councillors the
Neighbourhood Manager identified a number of the worst rear entryways the improvement of which the Lowestoft Together Board, many of whom are local residents, agreed to fund. The outcome of this work can be seen in the photos below, and feedback from local residents has been very positive.

Lowestoft Together are justifiably prou of the positive impact they have had in their area and the work on the rear entryways has proved that a combination of local knowledge, good partnership working and a commitment to the local area can result in resources being use to provide real improvements to local neighbourhoods.

The alleyway at the back of my house was a real eyesore before, now it’s been done up, it’s clean, the kids can play safely and I can get in and out of my back garden easily”

Lowestoft Together have funded a plethora of organisations and projects.  We insist that all groups work together to increase the effectiveness of their projects and to avoid duplication.  We ensure this happens through the theme groups.
