We are a group of people with an interest in Natural
History.
We have monthly field trips on a Sunday throughout the year and
fortnightly meetings on a Wednesday evening.
The latter are held, on dark evenings, indoors and we expect each
month to have to have a speaker on some aspect of the world’s
wildlife. These alternate with ‘informal’ meetings where we report
the latest sightings or discuss some aspect of wildlife interest.
In the summer we visit local sites instead.
We look for and record the animals, birds, fungi & plants on
these visits. All the meetings are general in nature but,
naturally, the emphasis changes with the seasons. In winter
we will visit 'birding' sites and in summer aim for the
plantlife. We expect to have a Fungus Foray in the autumn
and, since their formation in 2007, these are in association with
the Suffolk Fungus
Group.
The information, together with records from individuals, is
published in a Bulletin and an Annual Report. The information
is also given to
The Suffolk
Biological Records Centre in Ipswich.
Ordinary membership costs £5.50 a year at present. For a
couple at the same address the charge is £8.50 (One set of
publications only). Junior membership is just £0.50 a year,
but parents will need to make their own arrangements to supervise
youngsters at meetings.
We also ask for a small contribution towards room hire for indoor
meetings. These are held at the United Reform Church in
London Road North, Lowestoft and start at 7.30pm.
For security reasons the front door is locked when the meeting
starts, so please try to come on
time.
