OCTAVE VOCAL ENSEMBLE

Octave

William Clement-Smith - tenor
Brigitta Kenyon - soprano
David Hudson - bass
Paul Dawson - baritone
Norman Kenyon - counter-tenor

Linda Gower - contralto
Bob Bingham - bass
Tracey Quinton - soprano

OCTAVE have just celebrated their 20th anniversary!

The ensemble came into being in 1988 as a new venture into an essentially classical repertoire. The balanced set of eight voices enables it to offer a wide range of music from the pre-Renaissance to the contemporary.
The group is well established as one of the foremost and most able vocal ensembles in Suffolk, and expanded its repertoire to include a wide variety of lighter music - madrigals, glees and arrangements of folk, comic and popular songs.

Paul, Bob and Norman have been singing together since 1976, when they started the group Front Porch Harmony, which some of you may remember. In the 80s and early 90s they entertained unaccompanied and from memory. Linda and Tracey joined us at the birth of Octave, Birgitta in the '90s, William and David this century.

Of our many appearances in East Anglia over the past 20 years we may note particularly the concerts for music societies and academies, new vocal/instrumental works by local composers Alan Bullard, Andrew Sterling and Alan Parsons, concerts with the late Yaltah Menhuin at Orwell Park, and a number of the concert series in St Edmundsbury Cathedral and St Mary-le Tower Church, Ipswich.

This concert at Offton is their first performance in the New Year.
