The Parish of Mendlesham, with a population of 1200 is located
just west of the A140 Ipswich to Norwich Road, 19 miles from
both Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds. Stowmarket Railway Station,
on the main line to London, Liverpool Street is within easy
reach. The Church tower can be clearly seen just north of the
Mendlesham Mast.
There are two picturesque villages within the parish, Mendlesham
and Mendlesham Green and also outlying hamlets and houses.
The Parish has many
historic and interesting buildings, the beautiful Church of St
Mary the Virgin in Mendlesham dating from 1086, contains an
ancient Armoury and stands by the roadside as you approach the
centre. There is a conservation area in the heart of the
village containing attractive historic properties of all
sizes, an artists dream. The range of properties though, is
wide and comprehensive.
There are many footpaths and the Mendlesham Millennium
Woodland for leisure and recreation.
The Primary School and Community Centre with Playing Fields
and Tennis Courts is a modern development close to the
centre. There is an excellent Health Centre covering the
district.
Mendlesham Green also offers play facilities and Scout Hut.
There are a range of businesses including
Village Store, two
Public Houses, Hairdresser, Fish and Chip Shop and other
service outlets such as Motor Engineers, Builders and an
Estate Agent.
This is a lively Community with no less than 24 recreational
organizations covering almost every activity. An Annual
Street Fayre is organized by the Community Council to raise money
for the Parish, attracting visitors from a wide area.
