Walks around Mendlesham
Mendlesham’s 2008 Parish Plan showed strong support for
encouraging more walking and cycling in the parish. In particular,
it suggested:
- Updating the circular walks leaflet from the 1980s, which is
now out-of-print
- Exploring the possibility of a footpath between the
school/community centre and the woodland
- Exploring the possibility of a footpath between Mendlesham and
Mendlesham Green
The Parish Council has established a working group to take these
matters forward. For more information about this working group,
please contact Roger Drew: email

It has been suggested that a new leaflet be produced. It is
planned to have three walks. Each walk will have a colour code and
perhaps a theme. Two of the proposed walks start at the Community
Centre, in Mendlesham, and one at the Scout Hut, in Mendlesham
Green. The aim is to use public rights of way and avoid potentially
dangerous roads, as much as possible.
The working group has surveyed each of the possible routes and
produced a brief description and more detailed notes for each. The
brief description includes a map and a brief set of narrative
instructions on how to walk the route. The more detailed notes also
includes photos, references to the legal definitions of relevant
rights of way and comments on issues of access and signage. These
can be accessed by clicking on the relevant links below.
