Mendlesham’s
2008 Parish Plan showed strong support for encouraging more walking
and cycling in the parish. In particular, it
suggested:
-
Updating
the circular walks leaflet from the 1980s, which is now
out-of-print
-
Exploring
the possibility of a footpath between the school/community centre
and the woodland
-
Exploring
the possibility of a footpath between Mendlesham and Mendlesham
Green
The
Parish Council has established a working group to take these
matters forward. For more information about this working group,
please contact Roger Drew: email
roger.drew2@btinternet.com
It
has been suggested that a new leaflet be produced in Spring 2010.
It could have up to five walks. Each walk could have a colour code
and a theme. Four of the proposed walks start at the Community
Centre, in Mendlesham, and one at the Scout Hut, in Mendlesham
Green. The aim is to use public rights of way and avoid potentially
dangerous roads, as much as possible.
The
working group is planning to survey each of the five possible
routes. The
survey work will include developing route descriptions and
recording locations for signs and accessibility needs for each of
the proposed walks. A map and detailed instructions for each walk
will be posted on this website once the survey has been completed.
In addition, we are also posting photos of the route, references to
the legal definitions of relevant rights of way and comments on
issues of access and signage. These can be accessed by clicking on
the relevant links below. The dates of conducting the survey for
each route are given below:
PLEASE
COME!
Members
of the public are invited to participate in the survey. Each
walk will start at 10.30 from the Community Centre in Mendlesham,
except for the one in March which will start from the Scout Hut, in
Mendlesham Green. If you can not make these dates, please
use the instructions to walk the routes and give us your
feedback.
