Founded in 1850, Middleton School used to provide education just
for the children of Middleton from an early age until they left
school. Now the school provides education from children from the
ages of 5-9 years, and coming from not only Middleton, but also the
villages of Westleton, Dunwich, Theberton and Eastbridge, there are
also quite a number of children attending the school who come from
Leiston.
At the present time the school role is 30 with children being
taught in two classes. Able, gifted and talented pupils are
challenged in regular master classes, and pupil special educational
needs are well supported.
Apart fro the normal curriculum based teaching, the children
also take part in annual events such as country dancing around the
maypole of the Middleton Bell meadow, sports day on the village
playing field, Harvest Festival and Carol Services held in the
Church, and of course the Christmas productions which take place in
the school hall.
There is a thriving parent teacher association, who organise
many fund raising events which in turn pay for the many educational
visits organised for the children.
In September 2005, Middleton School federated with Peasenhall
Primary School, the federation has now been running for over 4
years, and has proved very successful, both schools being able to
enjoy each other’s facilities.
Middleton School recently had an outstanding Ofsted inspection
in February 2009, the full report can be found below.
