INTRODUCTION TO MILDENHALL PARISH
Mildenhall Parish comprises three main population areas,
Mildenhall, the village of West Row, Isleham Marina and has a vast
surrounding rural area.
RAF Mildenhall is also largely within the parish. It used to be
wholly within the parish but when Beck Row formed its own parish
the new boundary split the air base between the parishes and quite
literally runs down the centre of the runway.
The parish has 4792 dwellings, 6660 electors and 167
streets.
Mildenhall retains a range of individual shops and has a small
but well supported weekly Friday market. There is a suitably sized
supermarket under construction located at the heart of Mildenhall
town and it is hoped this will provide a big step in the
regeneration of the area. The supermarket will increase footfall
and because it has been deliberately located to be part of the
existing shopping area other traders have the potential to benefit
from that footfall.
Mildenhall has excellent recreation facilities as there is a 19
acre playing field with a river walk and fishing, football pitch
and baseball court. A MUGA (multi use games are) and outside gym
equipment are soon to be installed. The town centre children’s
playground is exceptionally well used. There are further extensive
recreation and play areas in the town. There is also a swimming
pool which is particularly well used by local primary and middle
schools. West Row has its own large playing field with football
pitch and children’s playground together with privately run bowls
and tennis facilities. A few minutes drive takes people to the
depths of surrounding forest or into the wilds of open
breckland.
The parish is well situated for work travel with Bury St
Edmunds, Newmarket and Cambridge being in easy reach. The A14 can
be reached within minutes opening up access the whole motorway
network.
