Speeding and Parking Enforcement

Details
Complaints of speeding vehicles through the majority of villages on the peninsula at any time of the day but especially in the morning and afternoon during the ‘school run’.

Complaints of vehicles parking partially on pavements and otherwise inconsiderately on the Rendlesham estate.

Complaints of inconsiderate parking in Campsea Ashe as a result of overspill from the station car park.

Objectives

To target speeding ’hot spots’ and deal with offenders by way of formal warnings and fixed penalty tickets.

To reduce the number of complaints about inconsiderate parking firmly but fairly in Rendlesham by speaking to vehicle owners, placing information notices on the vehicles or issuing tickets if necessary, whilst recognising the problems faced by residents on new housing developments where there are narrow roads and limited parking facilities.

To respond positively to complaints about parking in Campsea Ashe.

Updates

All members of the Wilford team are now trained to use the hand held speed gun increasing our capacity to deal with speeding problems. Over the last few months over thirty drivers have received verbal warnings and nine have received fixed penalty tickets. This is a small fraction of the total number of vehicles checked which reflects the fact that the majority of motorists do keep to the speed limits.

We have been targeting the parking issues in Rendlesham and as a result have issued a number of advisory notices and spoken to drivers. It appears that the number of complaints have reduced and generally we have found that once a notice has been issued the incident is not repeated. On the very few occasions it has, a ticket has been issued.

Campsea Ashe parish council have recently held a meeting regarding the parking at the station which was attended by representatives from SCDC and the railway company, Pc Andy Warne from the team also attended. This proved to be a very useful meeting where plans to improve the parking facilities were discussed.
