The town of Woodbridge
standing on the right bank of the River Deben is situated
eight miles north-east of the Suffolk County Town of
Ipswich.
It has many places of historical and architectural interest and the
narrow streets in the town centre abound in picturesque buildings
and ancient inns.
Woodbridge can be reached easily by road and rail. It is situated
just off the main trunk road A12.
The B1079 into Woodbridge will take you to the Shire Hall at Market
Hill.
Built in 1575 by Thomas Seckford of the Court of Requests to Queen
Elizabeth I, the Shire Hall has been a focal point of the town for
over 400 years.
Originally a sessions hall above and a corn market below, it was
restored in 1864 and used as a Magistrates Court.
In 1987 it was bought by the Town Council as its Council Chamber
and adjoining offices, whilst the first floor is the home of the
Suffolk Horse Museum.
