BIG estate improvements
Thanks to Ipswich Borough Council, Liveability funding, our
local Councillors, and Orwell Housing Association we now
have a pathway in St Catherines Court.
Prior to this installment it was a cobbled area
why,
well I have not got a clue
, but you could not walk on it without twisting your ankle let
alone take a buggy on it. The main way in and out of the
estate was up and down a flight of about 15 concrete steps
again not very practical for a buggy, small children, the elderly
and even the disabled of which make up our community.
Everyone walked up and down the road which naturally was not
very safe for the people walking or the drivers of any vehicles
coming in or leaving the estate.
So we are very happy with our path

More scheduled improvements for the estates;
We are currently waiting for updated street lighting for St
Catherines Court, Woodlark Close and Newnham Court as these
are very poorly lit. The estates were built in the 70's and I
think this must be the original lighting. All
3 estates have a few areas which are very dark which we are
covering through installation of extra security lighting but the
street lamps do need updating to give better lighting throughout
the estates. This work has now been
completed
Newnham Court are currently having discussions with Orwell
Housing Association on how to make the estate and living
environment more pleasant and safer, I will update this as I have
news. Through these consulations with
OHA Newnham Court have formed their
own committee now 'Newnham Court Community Group' and they are very
committed to improving the estate. They have started by
landscaping around the estate also making the communal area's at
the back of the properties into a more pleasant area to be.
The whole estate is looking more attractive. The children are
encouraged to look after the estate too with holding organised
litter picking days. The group was also set up with the
children's needs being a priority and plans for Halloween
and Christmas parties are currently underway.
We wish the group every success and hope to still join forces with
children activities like the holiday club and any fundraising
projects we both may have in the future.
Kitchen refurbishments, water cylinder and front door
replacements are currently happening in St Catherines Court.
Most of these have been completed now just
one block of flats are still needing their kitchen refurbished, and
just under 30 properties still needing door
replacements.
Newnham Court is currently having replacement entrance
screens. This has been
completed
Woodlark Close is due for some drainage
work.
